Ecclesiastes 1:1-3
King
Solomon wrote three books in his life.
1.
Song
of Solomon: he wrote this book when he was young
2.
he
wrote Proverbs
3.
Ecclesiastes
- King Solomon had sufficient opportunities to observe and experience life comprehensively
He wrote this book after he had plunged into materialism, sensuality, even
idolatry. He got lost following his desires and saw his life evaporating into inconsequential
now repentant and nearing the end of his days, he wrote book for unbelievers,
exposing the secular mind/worldview. He was materially rich, yet spiritually
bankrupt.
Ø After trying to find
meaning in life through women, wealth, wisdom, etc., he considers life is all empty,
power in vanity, and nothing matters--without God. Solomon exposes the
insignificance and absurdity of life. Life was nothing more than what is seen
“under the sun”. Solomon could afford anything he desired, but discovered to
his frustration how nothing he could buy brought happiness.
Ø “Under the sun” > this is the key to understanding. Solomon was a
believer, he is showing us what life is really like without God and an eternal viewpoint
Ø Ecclesiastic. 12:13-14: conclusion of life is fear God, and is
the essential ingredient of Life.
Ø The good life comes under
the SON that is Jesus Christ: that is called everlasting
life. If we leave God and eternity out, our life will become frustrating, and
meaningless.
Ø
Eternal
life is not about quantity of life but it’s about quality of life, is Life
reach, Life full, Blessings upon blessings.
Ø
John
10:10 > Complete quality define by God, rich abundant life, life of peace.
Ø
John
3:36 say you will have it if you believe in Jesus Christ
Ø
Jesus
Christ himself said:
·
John
6:51 > I'm the living bread
·
John
8:12 > I'm the light of the word
·
John
8:23 > I'm from heaven
·
John
10:9 > I’m the door
·
John
10:11 > I'm the good shepherd
·
John
11:25 > I'm the resurrection
·
John
14:6 > I'm the way, I'm the truth, and the Life.
·
John
15:1 > I'm the true vine
Ø
Gospel
of John is written so you can have life abundantly & you believe that Jesus
is the Lord.
Ø
Isaiah
64:6 > you cannot come to God on your own > you cannot find the God on
your own. You
can only come to God through Jesus, then
·
You
will be called child of god
·
You
will be free from sin
·
You
will have unlimited supply of heavenly provision
·
You
will have unlimited joy
·
You
will be a everlasting legend in the presence of god
·
We
have glorious resurrection
