Depress for a season in the Bible

Ø  Depression puts you in helpless and bad situation. Depression may be linked with stress, grief,  disappointment, anger, negativity, guilt, fear.
Ø  A number of people in the Bible struggled with feelings of depressions, such as Job, Moses, David, Jeremiah and Jonah.
Ø  Elijah also felt like dying during a down time in his life [1 King 19:1-4]. the experience of the prophet Elijah  give us HOPE in the face of depression.
Ø  Elijah was so depressed that he wanted to die. God didn’t judge him for his depressed feelings but he did send him some appropriate treatment to help him out.
Ø  1 king 17:1 >How he gets the boldness? > Boldness came due to god’s word > he prayed a prophetic prayer for spiritual reason.
·         He had word that gave him boldness, courage, appointment that opens the door to declare the word of god.
·         He prayed for No rain so people can cry out to The Lord & he can build the alter of The Lord
Ø  1 king 18:36- 37 > to purify the people, and to purify their heart
Ø  1 king 18:38 – 39 >the revival
·         If you have big challenge in your life, that challenge actually provided a huge platform for God to show up with a huge performance of His power.
·         That huge challenge you’re facing right now - God didn’t bring it or allow it to hurt you. It’s there to provide a platform on which He can show up to bring victory for you in a way that you and those who know you will never forget.
Ø  1 king 19:1-3 > Bible did not make to hide people's weakness, God made everybody equal.
·         Elijah was discovering once again the down-side to successful ministry ... opposition which can bring on oppression ... which results in depression! Suddenly, the man Elijah who was high on victory experienced the full flush of fear!
·         Elijah hasn't eaten anything since the confrontation on Mount Carmel ... several days from this point in time; and almost 370 miles of travel!
·         Since this covers several days he must have missed some sleep to have gotten so far on so little time!
·         Loneliness, contributes to the weariness. While he travels alone into the desert!
·         He had acted without God's direction in this trip.
·         He did not pray about the conflict ... he just panicked and ran!
·         He forgot all about God's other expressions of help and goodness, he only saw the moment!
·         Made no plans for being in the desert and no provision for survival!
Ø  Diagnostic test- why did he prayed? He was focusing on his problem that makes him depressed > when you are in depression; you have to focus on Jesus to overcome your problem.
Ø  1 king 19:5 > God is touching you to eliminate your depression. He gives us fresh bread, word of nourishment.
·         Even the most faithful servants of God can have times of failure and depression!  At such times God is faithful to love us and nurture us back to spiritual health.
Ø  1 king 19:6 > he wanted to revive you, encourage you
Ø  1 king 19:7 – 8 >numbers 40 in the bible is a testing period.
·         God feeds him in the desert to strengthen him for the 40 days, 40 night trip.
·         This Soul Food gave him the strength for a long journey toward God!
·         God sent him to a place of worship – God sent him to Mt. Horeb, the Mt. Of God (where the Law given to Moses).
Ø  1 king 19:9-12 > testimony of Elijah - god wants to tell you that whatever situation you are going through in your life he is still at the throne
Ø  1 king 19: 14-17-21 > God has already provided the sacrifice lamb for you
Ø  Moses
Ø  Numbers 11:11-15 > he was depress because he was focusing on problem, people instead of god
Ø  How The Lord solved the problem?
Ø  Numbers 11:16-17 > God gave him people to share his burden. > Church is one of the places to deal with Depression. It’s the place where we listen to each other and help one another.
Galatians 6:2 > “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
