PREPARING JOSHUA FOR GREAT COMMISSION

Joshua chapter 1:                          

1. GOD CHALLENGED JOSHUA TO BE UNAFRAID. (Verse 8)

a. He was to meditate upon the word continually.   “….shall meditate in it day and night”    

b. He was to read the word obediently.    “…. may observe to do.”

c. Follow the word exclusively.  “….according to all”

d. Accept it totally.   “….all that is written in it.”

PREPARING JOSHUA FOR VICTORY

 Joshua chapter 5:

The nation of Israel arrived safely on the other side of Jordan river.(4.19)  As from a human point of view, it was the  perfect time for Joshua to attack Jericho.
There were 3 steps of preparation necessary before God that would give  victory  to the people of Israel over the nations in the land of Canaan.

1. TO RENEW THE LORD’S COVENANT. (Verse 1-9)      

a. To restore their covenant relationship. (5:2-7)

b. To test their faith. (5:8)

c. To remove their reproach. (5:9)

d. To qualify them to eat the Passover.

2. REMEMBERING THE LORD’S GOODNESS (5:10-12)

God easily took them out of Egypt but it was difficult for him to take Egypt out of his people’s mind. 

3. REAFFIRMING THE LORD’S PRESENCE (5:13-15)

 The sequence here is significant:

a. Humble worship

b. Holy walk

c. Holy warfare

This parallel is found in the book of Ephesians.

 Holy  worship  Ephesians 3:14
 Holy walk  Ephesians  4:1,17, 5:2,8,15 Holy warfare  Ephesians 6:10

The lesson learned from the 5^th chapter of Joshua is that we must be spiritually prepared to do the Lord’s work successfully to glorify His name. Instead of rushing into the battle, we must take time to be "holy".
